Portraits of the Blues - Complementary Colors
Have you noticed how the artworks by Anne Waldrop and Ken Pease complement each other? Though the painting styles and even colors used are different, the qualities of the works bounce off of one another very well.
Ken Pease, "Poison Blues (Robert Johnson)" Scratchboard and acrylic on wood cabinet door. $250
Anne Waldrop, "Memphis Minnie." Oil on canvas. $400
The stark linework in Pease's work provides contrast and an almost vibrating (and musical) quality. Contrastingly, Waldrop's work has a more varied palette with her use of color adding vibrance and warmth. These two works are displayed together, and the blues, purples, and blacks in the two paintings are highly complementary - ultimately forming connections between the two different artworks.
