1919 (303 South Franklin Street)

Ethel Rice designed this unique house at 303 South Franklin Street after returning from Africa in 1919. Her husband, William A. Rice, had been a plant manager from American Tobacco in Rhodesia (present-day Zambia and Zimbabwe) until his death in 1919. Mrs. Rice was inspired by the native huts she saw while teaching Sunday school during her time in Rhodesia.
