1937 (2 East Main Street)

The Post Office building was constructed in 1937 in the Colonial Revival style. In 1938, the mural on the interior wall was commissioned as part of an effort by the U. S. Treasury Fine Arts Section to decorate public buildings and give artists work during the Great Depression. The painting by Works Progress Administration artist John de Groot, entitled The Great Road, features Colonel William Christian and several groups involved in the early settlement of the area, with the town of Christiansburg in the background.
