Let’s Go to the Depot!

How the Railroad Changed Cambria and Montgomery County

July 13 – January 30 2024

You never knew who you would see when you went to the depot in Cambria – or any of the many railroad stops located within Montgomery County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  Hardscrabble workers, young couples courting and everyone in between made their way to the station to put in a day’s work, or to see who had arrived for a visit.

Busy rail depots connected the people and businesses of Montgomery County  with points worldwide. Incoming rail cars brought exotic items and people from faraway places – all with a story to tell. A true engine for the community, the railroad represented successful business, hard work, availability of goods and maybe a little gossip…
