Images of the Past

ON DISPLAY

until June 10

A photograph captures a single moment in time. Photographs record what we wore, how we arranged our hair, our jewelry, and items held in our hands as well as the lines and expressions of our faces. All of these things give an idea of the person at that time – an image of the past. Once only the wealthy could afford a painted portrait, but the development of photography allowed people of many income levels to obtain a portrait of themselves for the first time.
