Plant It Forward      Plants to Share        Love Plants to Love the Earth

Easy to grow   Easy to Propagate   Easy to Share

This is the second year of Extension Master Gardener plant-sharing occasions.  We have over 300 rooted and unrooted cuttings , ready for plant lovers, beginners, and enthusiastic kids of all ages to learn about the joys of nurturing plants.  What we ask in return is that when the plants are ready, these new plant parents share them with family and friends. The Plant It Forward events have several educational goals:

  • Basic skill of caring for plants, understanding basic botany, entomology, and soil concepts
  • Understanding how our action impact the life of plants and thus the life on earth
  • Feeling the joy of nurturing life and of share the results of our effort
  • The stress-relieving benefits of taking care of plants that research has documented and COVID 19 has reinforced

The goal of this project is not to get rid of plants nor to monetize them, but rather to get people started  with the joy of growing plants. The only “payback” for the free plants is that each person that receives a plant grows it with care, propagates it with joy, and shares it with love of life.  This is the part of horticulture that feeds our spirits rather than our bodies.  But it is also a critical learning opportunity for humanity’s  future.
